Letter from Ganges Manufacturing staff to David Henderson

Letter from the Indian staff at Ganges Manufacturing to David Henderson, dated 30 November 1948. On the occasion of David Henderson's retirement and addressing both Mr Henderson and his wife after his 25 years of service during the transition to independence in India.

This is part of a series of archives relating to David F. Henderson (donor's grandfather) concerning his time in Calcutta. David joined Thompson, Shepherd and Company (Jute Spinners based at Seafield Works) in 1909 when he was 15 years old. He enlisted into the army in 1912 and served for 7 years during World War I leaving 27th May 1919. After the war he returned to Thompson, Shepherd and Company where he was made manager of the mill office. He went out to Calcutta in October 1923 to work for the Ganges Manufacturing Company. He worked here for 25 years, first as mill clerk, then Senior Assistant and serving the last ten years as Assistant Manager. He retired in November 1948 where he returned to Monifieth.
