Pennant Souvenir from RRS Discovery

Pennant: Triangular pennant made of black felt, two black ties on either end, white transfer on front showing RRS Discovery with the words 'London R.R.S Discovery'. Possibly made by a member of th crew and bought on board the ship. Donor was a member of the Eagle Patrol (a section of the Woodlands Scout group), Blackburn. In 1949 the Scouts had a Bob-a-Job week competition to see who could raise the most funds and the Eagle Patrol won raising 20. As a reward was a visit to London where they spent several days staying on the Discovery. This trip also included going to see the Scout Gang Show (directed by Ralph Reader) at the Albert Hall, visiting Gilwell Park and being shown around the Houses of Parliament by Barbara Castle (MP for Blackburn). Here he remembers climbing the rigging to the crows nest.
