Rubber backing machine used in the manufacture of jute carpeting
Slide, colour, part of a collection of slides, contained in a maroon and brown 'Photax' slide case. This shows a rubber backing machine, used in the manufacture of jute carpeting and was located in Tay Carpet Works on Lochee Road in Dundee until the early 1970s. At the foreground of the photographs you can see two un-backed lengths of carpeting feeding into the machine, then towards the back of the machine the carpets are black having had the rubber applied. In the background there are crates of jute spools both before and after the dyeing process.
