Sail maker's tool
Seam smoother, wooden tool used by a sail maker. Made of laburnum with a twisted shaft and knotted end, featuring a Masonic symbol on head and lozenge shape on reverse. Canvas is prone to springing back so hard folds need to be created. The sail maker would fold the canvas to the size required and then run the seam smother along this fold applying pressure evenly.
