Silver Vesta box
Silver Vesta box presented to George E. Kidd, Secretary of Dundee Shipbuilders Company, inscribed "Discovery". On reverse the inscription reads, 'Keel laid 7th March 1900, launched 21st March 1901, trial 14th May 1901'. Early matches were highly combustible and needed to be carried safely and free from moisture. Vesta boxes were the decorative pocketsize containers into which the bulk bought matches were transferred.
