Teaspoon fashioned from sledge runner

Teaspoon made from a German silver portion of a sledge runner, belonging to the surgeon of the Discovery expedition 1901-1904 Reginald Koettlitz and contemporary with the expedition, made either in the Antarctic or soon after. The inside of the bowl is engraved with the 'Discovery Antarctic Expedition 1901' Emperor Penguin emblem and the outside is engraved 'From Broken Shoe of Sledge Runner used Sept 1903'. The handle is of a twisted design surmounted by the Koettlitz crest, a bull rampant atop a crown and enclosed by outstretched wings.
