Thomas Whitfield\'s Allied Victory Medal
Medal, bronze ‘Allied Victory Medal’ (nicknamed Wilfred) on a striped, multicoloured ribbon, presented to Thomas Whitfield, one of the stokers onboard the Discovery during the British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904, to recognise his service in World War I. Inscribed on one side are the words, "The Great War for Civilisation 1914-1919". On the reverse is an image of the winged figure Victory and around the edge the recipient’s service number, rank, name and unit, ‘149832 T. Whitfield. CH. STO. R.N.’ can be seen.
