Amundsen's tent at the South Pole

Photograph, black and white and mounted, part of a collection of photographs depicting scenes from the British Antarctic Expedition 1910-1913 onboard the Terra Nova. This particular photograph has been entitled 'Forestalled' and shows the Scott's party outside Amundsen's tent at the South Pole, dated 18th January 1912. (From left to right) Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Lawrence Oates, Edward Wilson and petty officer Edgar Evans, the other member of the party Henry Bowers is taking the shot. Inside this tent Amundsen had left a note to Scott asking him to return a message to the King of Norway in case the Norwegian party didn't survive the return. Mounted on two layers of black and off white paper on a card mount and inscribed 'No.46' on the reverse of the image.
