Article re. Byrd Expedition finding Amundsen's Cairn
Newspaper cutting, taken from the "Daily Chronicle" and dated Monday 30/12/1929. Article entitled, 'Amundsen relic found near the South Pole', relating to a cairn built by Amundsen's party containing paraffin, matches and an account of them reaching the pole, found 18 years later (and after Amundsen's death) by Byrd's Expedition. Part of a scrapbook belonging to William R. Colbeck, 2nd Officer on the "Discovery" during BANZARE 1929-1931 and son of William Colbeck, captain of the "Morning", the relief ship for the Discovery during the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
