Newspaper cutting, taken from "The Times" and dated 17/3/1930. Article entitled, 'Discoveries in Antarctic - U.S. claims - reply to Admiral Byrd', referring to the response from the American government that Commander Byrd had thought of the lands he discovered in Antarctica as not belonging to America but the whole world. Part of a scrapbook belonging to William R. Colbeck, 2nd Officer on the "Discovery" during BANZARE 1929-1931 and son of William Colbeck, captain of the "Morning", the relief ship for the Discovery during the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
