Cop Winder

Cop Winder, machine used in the middle stages of jute processing. Here the spun bobbins of yarn are wound onto 'cops' which fit into the centre of a shuttle providing the 'weft' thread for weaving. This machine comprises of one row of eight bobbins feeding onto one row of eight cops within main frame. Made by James Low & Co. Ltd., Monifieth, Scotland and dated 1933. This machine has been altered from original design for safety with a new belt drive guard added to left and right access guards. Part of collection of jute processing machinery used to teach jute spinning and weaving at Dundee College of Technology.
