Harpoon Shell

Shell from a whaling harpoon, collected from Grytviken, South Georgia, Antarctica by donors Husband. Husband worked as a microbiologist at the University of Dundee until 2004. His work took him to Antarctica twice, the fist with B.A.S in 75/76 and the second in 1983 to Dry Valleys with New Zealand Antarctic Survey. On the first trip when he was on route via South Georgia he collected the harpoon shell. He reports that many harpoons littered the beach.

The shell is metal with four groves up its length and three around its circumference. The shell is hollow up the length and is marked CMV F on two sides.
