Postcard sent to William Kennedy's grandfather during WW1

Postcard, portrait, sent to Bill's grandfather, whilst Bill was at the front, wishing him a happy birthday. Card reads on front 'Greeting to you, Many Happy Returns of the Day. In truest friendship, from my heart, my wishes come, through far apart; and wherever you may be today, my greatest kind this card convey'. Back of card reads 'Many happy returns of the day and may you see another 80 years but not at the front. From W Kennedy and Alfred Law'. Dated 29/07/1915.

Part of a collection relating to William (Bill) Kennedy. Born in 1896 he left school at 14 and became an apprentice at a jute mill (where his father also worked as an engineer). In 1914, aged 18 he enlisted for WW1 as part of the Royal Engineers. In the 1920s he went to work in the jute Industry over in Calcutta with his wife Ester (Tess) and daughter Marjorie (born 1929). Tess and Marjorie returned to Dundee before WWII, unknown when Bill returned.
