Roving Frame

Roving Frame, machine used in the earlier stages of jute processing. Here the sliver (unspun raw jute) is further combed out and given a slight twist to strengthen the fibre. This machine comprises of two rows of rove bobbins, 20 in total and a motor on the top right hand side of the frame, manufactured by Fairbairn MacPherson, Leeds. This machine has been altered from original design for safety with a new belt drive guard added. Part of collection of jute processing machinery used to teach jute spinning and weaving at Dundee College of Technology.
