S.Y. "Southern Cross"

Photograph, black and white and mounted, of the S.Y. Southern Cross. Handwritten in black ink upon the top of the mount, 'S.Y. 'Souther Cross' British Antractic Expedition 1898'. Upon the lower half of photograph is handwritten, "with love from Willie" (probably William Colbeck). Belonging to a collection of papers associated with William Colbeck, Captain of the "Morning", which made two trips to Antarctica as a relief vessel for the "Discovery" during the British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904. Colbeck also served as the magnetic observer upon the British Southern Cross Expedition 1898-1900.
