Teapot engraved 'S.Y Discovery', related to Banzare

Teapot, silver plated, engraved "S.Y. Discovery" . Other stamps on base '4HP', W & H in flag motif, letter stamp 'I' '53312', "Walker and Hall, Sheffield", circular stamp "Patent Handle", "Warranted Hard & Silver Soldered", '55', '23'. Part of a collection of objects associated with BANZARE (The British and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition) and K.N. McKenzie who sailed on "Discovery" as 1st Officer in the BANZARE expedition of 1929-30 and was Captain on the 2nd BANZARE expedition of 1930-31.

This silver teapot was for the use of officers and scientists in Discoverys wardroom, and is engraved with the ships name. Notice that she is referred to as S.Y. Discovery for BANZARE she was registered as a yacht with the Royal Thames Yacht Club, and therefore temporarily changed from Royal Research Ship to Steam Yacht Discovery.
