Photograph, black and white, part of a collection of photographs taken by Thomas Hodgson (marine biologist aboard the Discovery) of scenes from the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904. This particular photograph shows a group of Maori men, women and children dressed in contemporary and traditional dress along with some of the expedition members, Kaiapoi, New Zealand. Officers visible (left to right) are Michael Barne, Thomas Hodgson (marine biologist), Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Hartley Ferrar (geologist) and Edward Wilson (zoologist). Reginald Koettlitz (surgeon) is seated at the front wearing the hat and cloak they have just been presented.
