PHOTOGRAPH of The Foundation Stone being laid for Caird Hall. Street has been decorated for a special event with flags, banners and bunting for the royal visit of King George V and Queen Mary when they visited Dundee to lay the foundation stone of the Caird Hall 10th July 1914. photo taken from dock street looking over towards Green Market. In a modern twist the laying was done remotely with the King and Queen pressing buttons at Cairds Ashton Works which sent a signal to lay the stones. This photo shows the mechanism which was used.

Part of a collection of items donated by Sandy Anderson. Son of John Douglas Anderson, who was one of the Directors at Caird Ashton Works and Grandson of D.A. Anderson who was the managing director.
