Possession Islands, Feb 24, 1904
Watercolour, created by Dr Edward Wilson on the return journey from the Antarctic, showing the Discovery ship with islands behind her. Contains a caption handwritten in pencil in the centre of the bottom section of the painting which reads, ‘Possession Islands’ and dated 24th February 1904. In his diary Wilson wrote of the Islands, ‘.........There are nine of them, all sorts of shapes, of columnar basalt like Giant’s Causeway. All the forenoon and afternoon I spent sketching them’.
