Ship model, showing the Terra Nova after the 1910 refit. This steam powered wooden barque was built in Dundee in 1884 by Alexander Stephen and Sons and was 187 feet long with a 31 foot beam. Most famous as the vessel used in Scott’s fateful British Antarctic Expedition 1910-1912, she had also been one of the relief ships to the ice bound Discovery in 1903-1904, returning to the Newfoundland Sealing Industry after 1912. She was sunk after suffering heavy ice damage to the stern in September 1943. This model was built by John Allan, Carnoustie and dated 18/5/1973. Ship presented to Mr A. Eric Larg and Miss Margaret Scott Larg, former residents of Burnside, Glen Prosen a house used in the planning of the Terra Nova Expedition by Edward Wilson and Robert Falcon Scott.
