The conning tower is a raised section on a ship where an officer will stand and give directions to the helmsman. Belonging to a collection of photographs associated with William R. Colbeck, 2nd Officer on the "Discovery" during the Banzare Expedition 1929-1931 and son of William Colbeck, captain of the "Morning", the relief ship for the Discovery during the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
