Dinner Plate produced for Discovery Space Shuttle Expedition
Dinner Plate, Royal Doulton, reproduced in the style of the 1901-1904 crockery as a special issue for the Discovery Space shuttle 1984 and was one of the three pieces carried on the maiden flight of the space shuttle 30 August - 5 September 1984. There is also a letter of authentication signed by the astronauts (under DUNIH 2016.23.2.2). The plate as in the originals is white with a dark blue and a sold rim with the "Discovery Antarctic Expedition 1901" crest. The centre of the plate bears a crest with the space shuttle, RRS Discovery and a globe, around the edge is written the names of the crew of 1984. "Hawley Resnik Walker" on the reverse the plate has a gold foot and the Doulton crest and details of the "orbiter Discovery 1984 and RRS Discovery 1901 association.
