Discovery's winter quarters
Postcard, featuring a map of the world showing S.Y. Morning's path, handwritten in black ink on the bottom section of the postcard is the note, ‘Discovery’s Winter Quarters Mc Mundo Straits Antarctica 77 50’. Arrived here 11.45 pm January 23rd 1903, all well’. Addressed to C.A.T. Colbeck Esq., 225, Anlaby Road, Hull, Yorks, England. Postmarked Christchurch, 14/4/1903. Belonging to a collection of papers associated with William Colbeck, Captain of the "Morning", which made two trips to Antarctica as a relief vessel for the "Discovery" during the British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
