Letter, from Sir Clements Markham (President of the Royal Geographical Society) to William Colbeck, 21, Eccleston Square, SW., dated 1/4/1901 and written on Markham crested paper. The letter first thanks Colbeck for his pervious letter of congratulations over the launch of the Discovery and then asks for advice and observations over sounding at the edge of ice corner. Belonging to a collection of papers associated with William Colbeck, Captain of the "Morning", which made two trips to Antarctica as a relief vessel for the "Discovery" during the British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
