Surveyor's Scale

Surveyor's Scale, brass instrument, taken from the National Antarctic Expedition1901, it was used to draw up maps and charts. Made by Cary, Porter Ltd. of London, a firm of nautical instrument makers established in 1765 to supply the Admiralty. It is cased in a wooden box with blue velvet lining and a hinged lid; on top of lid, painted in white lettering with black shadowing are the words, ‘ANT:EX:1901’.
