Newspaper cutting, taken from an unknown publication, dated circa 1929. Article entitled, 'Did he really get there? - the great polar controversy: Commander Byrd and the cairns and mountains' relating to critcisim Byrd recieved from Major Tryggve Gran, (ski expert upon the Terra Nova Expedition) doubting whether he actually reached the Poles from his description. Part of a scrapbook belonging to William R. Colbeck, 2nd Officer on the "Discovery" during BANZARE 1929-1931 and son of William Colbeck, captain of the "Morning", the relief ship for the Discovery during the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
