Newspaper cutting, taken from the "Daily Chronicle" and dated Saturday 23/11/1929. Article entitled, 'Stars and Stripes planted in shadow of pole', relating to the near failure of Byrd's Expedition and how he was rescued by the relief party. Part of a scrapbook belonging to William R. Colbeck, 2nd Officer on the "Discovery" during BANZARE 1929-1931 and son of William Colbeck, captain of the "Morning", the relief ship for the Discovery during the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
