Newspaper cutting, taken from the "Evening Standard", dated 3/12/1929. Article entitled 'Commander Byrd supported - Shackleton's colleague tells of what he saw at the Pole - "High Mountains" '. Relating to the Byrd Expedition 1928- 1930, both Captain William Colbeck and Captain England are defending Byrd's claims that there is a high mountain range on the South Pole after criticisms from Major Tryggve Gran (ski expert onboard the Terra Nova Expedition 1910- 1913). Part of a scrapbook belonging to William R. Colbeck, 2nd Officer on the "Discovery" during BANZARE 1929-1931 and son of William Colbeck, captain of the "Morning", the relief ship for the Discovery during the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
