Newspaper cutting, taken from an unknown publication, dated circa 1938. Article entitled, 'Ten-ton whale's head on deck - adventure of Discovery II in Antarctic "peasoupers", relating to the return of Discovery II from Antarctica to St. Katherine's Dock, London. Discovery II was one of the vessels used as part of the Discovery Investigations 1924-1951, which were a series of scientific investigations into the biology of whales in the Southern Ocean. Part of a scrapbook belonging to William R. Colbeck, 2nd Officer on the "Discovery" during BANZARE 1929-1931 and son of William Colbeck, captain of the "Morning", the relief ship for the Discovery during the National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904.
