For a cog wheel mould
Wooden pattern or mould, painted red, part of a collection of mould patterns used for the manufacturing of textile machinery cog wheels. In this process a box is placed over the mould and filled tightly with wet sand, a second box is then placed on top of this and filled with more wet sand. Both boxes are then split in half and the wooden pattern taken out, the boxes are then re fixed together and molten metal poured into it them making the desired mould for casting machinery parts.
