Midwinter dinner, "Discovery" Expedition
Menu card, from the Mid-Winter dinner at Winter Quarters dated 22nd June 1903 during the British National Antarctic Expedition 1901-1904. Features the expedition crest with the menu listed below, on the reverse of the card are the signatures of the officers and scientists present. Mid-winter marked the half way point in the long, dark Antarctic winter and holding a celebration with presents and food was an important morale booster. Along with traditional food such as Roast Beef, devilled Skua, a southern bird was also consumed.
