Sledging pannikin, belonged to Reginald Skelton
Pannikin, metal (aluminum), belonged to Reginald Skelton (engineer onboard the Discovery 1901-1904) and the letters "R.W.S." are inscribed upon the base. Pannikins were used for both eating and drinking in on sledging journeys. They were made of aluminum as this was lighter and less fragile than traditional china however the pannikins had to be warmed before use as if still cold would damage a sledgers lips.
