Sock
White knitted sock. Knitted for E. R. Gunther for his time during the Discovery Oceanographic Expedition 1925-27. The top of the sock includes his written name tag.
The socks were knitted by Scottish Islanders and the large size was because Gunther and the knitter both allowed for shrinkage, the knitter commented that 'he must be a very big man'
