Southern Party Camping on the Barrier
Painting, framed, entitled ‘The Southern Party camping on the Barrier’ by Stanley L. Wood, dated 1904. Part of a series of illustrations produced for the Pearson’s Magazine (March 1904 edition) from Sir Earnest Shackleton’s accounts of Scott’s Discovery Expedition. The Southern Sledging Party, consisting of Captain Scott, Edward Wilson and Earnest Skackleton, lasted 58 days and despite battling scurvy, starvation and frostbite, they reached further south than anybody before them.
