Counting Glass (Shott Gauge)
Counting Glass (Shott Gauge), brass folding apparatus comprised of a measuring cross section, engraved 'Porter' at one end and a magnifying glass at the other end. The middle section is engraved "Lowson, Forfar" and "British made". This is used in quality control, usually used with finer materials such as linen goods, and measures the number of warp or weft threads in the particular inch cross section or for inspecting the weft and smoothness and roughness of the fabric.
