Photograph, sepia of women weavers at Craigie Works, Dundee, dated circa 1900. The women can be seen wearing cop aprons, palm protectors and holding cops and shuttles. The reverse of photograph contains a handwritten annotation identifying Elizabeth Isabella Brown Massie as the woman sat in the center. 'Born 10 March 1866 at 2.20pm in Forfar, Elizabeth married David Ross and moved to Dundee in the 1890s as the jute industry was booming. She was a fast and efficient weaver and is surrounded by her pupils. She had 8 children, 2 becoming university professors. 10 shillings and 9 pence for one weeks wages, 5 10 hour days and 1/2 day Saturdays. Daughter Aggie Ross was a half timer in the mills at the age of 12.'
