Writing slope used at Brown Street School

Writing Slope, box of polished wood possibly mahogany with brass inlay around lock and on lid with inscription "To / Mr James Simpson / as a parting gift / from the pupils at / Brown Street School / -Dec 1872-". All edges of the box are with brass and also brass stringing within the brass edging. Inside are compartments for ink bottles and pens and pencils and a writing slope with dark blue leather top with tooled edge pattern in gold leaf. The two sided of the slope lift up to reveal storage below. The Bottom surface with green hessian protection. Box includes a key for lock.
